Project:

„AES Maritza East - Waste Disposal Facility for gypsum and ash - First Cell”.
As a Contractor GIMEXPORT AD has executed an essential part of the construction works for the building of the largest landfill for waste disposal in South East Europe on total area of  580 000 m².

Types of construction works as follows:

• Construction of the lower isolation screen of the leachate pond and a leak detection system:

Supply and installation of Geomembrane HDPE 2mm- 31 000 m². The system for monitoring of possible leaks was the first one installed in Bulgaria. This system allows real time, throughout the operational period of the leachate pond, detection of leaks in the isolation layer and their localization with accuracy to 0.5 m² . The test results from the testing of the geomembrane weldings and the leak detection system determine the high reliability of the constructed facility. 

• Construction of the lower isolation screen of the landfill: Supplied and installed Geomembrane HDPE 2mm and Protective Geotextile - 550 000 m².
• Construction of a drainage layer of washed river gravel with separating geotextile layer
• Construction of Drainage and Inspection Pipelines

• Installation of permanent flow meters monitoring system with photovoltaic power supply for monitoring the amount of leachate, leaving the landfill and entering the leachate pond

• Construction of a new road for trucks, including stabilizing of the subgrade with high strength geogrid

New landfill for storage of phosphorus-gypsum for the production needs of “Agropolychim”, Devnya.
